Has cold season made you miserable? Try these tips.

This is definitely the time of year for catching a cold. Although usually minor, colds can make you feel miserable. It’s tempting to try the latest remedies, but the best thing you can do is take care of yourself.

Here are some tips that may be effective in shortening it!

Get your zzz’s. By far the most effective remedy is rest. People who are exhausted stay sicker longer.

Exercise. Exercise strengthens your immune system. Researchers have found that working out causes immune cells to attack viruses at a faster rate.

Eat healthily. Eating healthy can help reduce the change for catching a cold. Remember, chicken soup is good even when you are well.

De-stress. We all encounter stress each day that can wear us down. Find a way to relax each day. Reading, yoga, meditation, deep breathing, or a hot bath are all good ways that can help you relax.

Hydrate. We all know we need to drink more water each day, but during a cold, it is even more important.

Wash hands frequently. The key to this is “frequently”. If you aren’t near water be sure to carry a portable hand sanitizer. In a recent post, we show you how to make your own.

While it may be nearly impossible to avoid all colds, hand-washing is probably the best “medicine”.
