Nationalhcs is seeking Sterile Processing Technician candidates for PRN positions at a minimally invasive surgery center in Munster, IN.

This state of the art multi-specialty surgical center offers minimally invasive procedures and experienced staff focused on caring for their patients and their families. The center focuses on pain management and spine, orthopedic, ENT, and pediatric surgeries.

Specifics

  • PRN positions
  • Work week is Monday-Friday
  • No nights, weekends, or holiday
  • Scrubs are furnished by facility
  • Shifts vary, depending on facility needs to cover vacation, sick, emergency, and indefinite leave times
  • Earliest shift start is 6:00am, latest shift end is 6:00pm
    • Procedures occur 7:00am to 5:00pm
    • Will arrive prior to procedure for admitting and stay after procedure for recovery

Description of Work

  • Positon will be under the general supervision of the assigned manager and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Fill the surgical scrub role on all types of minor and major surgical procedures dependent on individual competencies in each surgical specialty
  • Assist physicians and nurses in various medical and technical procedures
  • Decision making concerning equipment and/or instrumentation sterilization
  • Bio-hazardous waste disposal
  • Housekeeping duties
  • Patient care and patient flow
  • Comply with hospital practice standards regarding competent performance duties
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Create a safe environment in which surgery may take place
  • Use medical equipment in a safe manner
  • Implement principles o medical and surgical asepsis in accordance with recognized national standards and facility specific policies and procedures
  • Provide physical safety for the patient
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts
  • Support other facility personnel in the performance of their duties
  • Assist surgeons in scrubbed cases
  • Gather supplies for upcoming cases
  • Demonstrate cooperative work attitude toward and with facility staff, patients, family, and visitors
  • Maintain a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA guidelines and infection control standards
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Instrument Processing from decontamination to storage of sterile packages
  • Check room for cleanliness, availability of supplies and equipment for all assigned cases at the beginning of each day (as required by shift)
  • Utilize surgeon preference card and select packs, supplies and instruments
  • Perform surgical hand scrub and don sterile gown and gloves according to gowning and gloving policy
  • Maintain proper sterile technique when gowning and gloving surgeon and draping patient
  • Handle specimens per established policy
  • Transport instruments to decontamination area utilizing appropriate technique and in compliance with established policy
  • Put unused sterile supplies and instruments away at end of day (as required by shift)
  • Restock operating rooms to established PAR levels

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Active/Clear certification as a Surgical Technologist
  • Minimum 2years work experience as an operating room technician preferred
  • Experience in ortho, spine, ENT, and/or pain management a plus
  • Active/Clear BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Experience working with electronic medical records, email, and computer literate
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds, and to push/pull over 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk at least 5 hours per day (as required by shift)
  • Successful completion of competency testing, drug screening, background check, physical exam, immunizations, and other Nationalhcs screening/application requirements
  • Successful completion of other client/facility screening/application requirements
