Laboratory Technician, Phlebotomy experience – Corrections

Nationalhcs is seeking Laboratory Technician candidates with Phlebotomy experience for full-time positions at a correctional facility in Troy, VA. The facility is located approximately 55 miles northwest of Richmond. This is a security level 3 female facility with a 1,200 inmate capacity.

Job Summary

Nationalhcs is seeking Laboratory Technician candidates with Phlebotomy experience for full-time positions at a correctional facility in Troy, VA. The facility is located approximately 55 miles northwest of Richmond. This is a security level 3 female facility with a 1,200 inmate capacity.

Correctional phlebotomists perform all of the responsibilities involved in the drawing and testing of blood.

 

Specifics

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week)
  • Work week is Monday-Friday
  • No nights, weekends, or holiday
  • Shifts:
    • First Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • First assignment is 13-weeks, with 26-week renewable assignments thereafter

Description of Work

  • Prepare patients for the procedure
  • Use and verify proper patient identification
  • Perform venipuncture and finger sticks
  • Practice proper techniques for drawing blood
  • Practice safety standards and regulations for handling blood
  • Draw blood
  • Correctly label samples with date and name
  • Deliver blood for testing to laboratory
  • Clean and maintain all equipment
  • Some centrifuge blood samples may be performed
  • Other duties as may be required by facility

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Active/Clear certification as a Laboratory Technician
  • Minimum one-year work experience
  • Active/Clear BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Experience working with electronic medical records, email, and computer literate
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds, and to push/pull over 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk at least 5 hours per day (as required by shift)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful completion of competency testing, drug screening, background check, physical exam, immunizations, and other Nationalhcs screening/application requirements
  • Successful completion of other client/facility screening/application requirements
