Licensed Practical Nurse, State Agency, Ongoing Position

Job Summary

Nationalhcs has a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position in St Louis, MO area. This position is located at a residential school with 40 students ages 6 to 21, and a campus for the severely disabled with about 18 students. This is an ongoing position.


  • Immediate need for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Sunday-Thursday
  • 11:00pm-7:30am
  • 1/2-hour lunch (unpaid)
  • This position will have contact with students and staff
  • Note: Health Center runs Sunday Afternoon through Friday Afternoon with LPNs and a full-time Supervising RN
  • Experience with special needs children is a plus
  • State Agency/State School

Description of Work

  • This is advanced professional and supervisory, educational, or specialized nursing work
  • Coordinate, direct, evaluate, and participate in the nursing care of physically or mentally ill or disabled patients or developmentally disabled patients
  • Application of advanced and/or specialized nursing skills in the performance of duties
  • Responsible for all nursing services in a moderate-sized multi-ward unit or program
  • Serves as the facility-wide nursing supervisor on an assigned shift, depending on the side of the facility and the diversity of nursing services provided
  • Function in a specialized clinical, education, or administrative capacity in areas such as psychiatric nursing, nursing staff development, quality assurance, utilization review employee health, infection control, oncology, endoscopy, etc
  • Supervision is usually exercised over subordinate professional and paraprofessional nursing staff
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision
  • Work will be reviewed by superiors for conformance with established policies and the effectiveness of nursing procedures.


  • Active/Clear Missouri professional Nurse licensure
  • Minimum 2-years professional nursing experience
  • Minimum 1-year supervisory, educational, or specialized clinical experience
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Applicants with a Nursing Diploma or Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing will be accepted with one additional year of general professional nursing experience
  • Certification by the American Nurses' Association (or other comparable bodies with equivalent certifying requirements) in psychiatric and mental health medical-surgical, pediatric, gerontological or general nursing practice, nursing administration, or other areas relevant to nursing practices in state agencies may be substituted or one year of the required general experience
  • Direct care experience within the previous year
  • Ability to follow care plans and/or clinical orders
  • Active/Clear BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Successful completion of competency testing, drug screen, background check, physical exam, immunizations, and other agency screening/application requirements
  • Successful completion of other Client screening/application requirements
