A correctional medicine physician is a medical doctor who works within the prison system instead of in a hospital or private practice, providing medical care to inmates.

First position available:
MD to work a minimum of 24 hours per week but prefer 40 hours per week
Mon-Fri
Shift: Day
Medical consults within the mental health unit
Mental Health has over 200 beds comprised of crisis, inpatient, and residential patients
This position will assist one midlevel in providing consultations
Second position available:
MD to work 40 hours per week
Shift: Day
Inpatient Medical Unit
30-bed unit
This position will have a midlevel to assist (supervision is provided by facility provider)
Description of Work
Provide care to individual patients as needed
Examine, diagnose, and treat patients and their illnesses or injuries
Consult with correctional authorities to ensure understanding of all medical requirements and restrictions
Educate patients on better health habits
Perform daily checks/inventory of supplies
Perform checks of equipment to maintain the proper working order
Perform tests and exams as needed, including tests requiring machines like EKGs or X-rays
Collaborate with team members to ensure all protocols, security policies, and procedures are followed
Keep clear, accurate records as required by protocols
Communicate with health team members and other staff who assist in the delivery of medical care
Transcribe med orders
Perform any additional medical-related duties as needed
Requirements
One-year experience required
Experience in corrections preferred
Active/Clear license to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina
Active/Clear DEA
Active/Clear BLS (American Heart Association)
Thorough knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of general preventative medicine and the techniques involved
Thorough knowledge of developments in the field of medicine is necessary
The ability to compile clear and concise electronic notes for patients' medical records
Successful completion of competency testing, drug screen, background check, physical exam, immunizations, and other agency screening/application requirements
